Side effects and adverse events
If you have a side effect from a medicine prescribed through Weight Loss Doctors, tell your doctor through the care-team chat in your patient portal. Your doctor has your file open and can advise you, change your dose or stop the medicine. If you cannot use the portal, phone 065 757 3674 or email hello@weightlossdoctors.co.za. We pass your report to your doctor the same business day.
We acknowledge every report of a side effect the same business day.
Severe symptoms are emergencies: chest pain, difficulty breathing, severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, signs of a severe allergic reaction, or fainting. Go to your nearest emergency department or call 10177 (ambulance) or 112 from a mobile phone first, and tell us afterwards.
You can also report a side effect directly to the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA): through the Med Safety App (install it from your app store; details at medsafety.sahpra.org.za), through the e-reporting portal linked from sahpra.org.za (Health Products Vigilance), or by emailing SAHPRA's adverse drug reaction form to adr@sahpra.org.za. SAHPRA does not accept anonymous reports.
Complaints and concerns
If you are unhappy with any part of our service, tell us. You can use the care-team chat in your patient portal, email hello@weightlossdoctors.co.za, phone 065 757 3674, or write to or visit us at RaiMed Centre, 590 Dr Chota Motala Road, Pietermaritzburg, 3201.
We reply to every complaint within two business days. If the matter needs investigation, we tell you what we are doing and when you will hear from us, and we aim to resolve it within 30 days. A complaint about your care goes to your treating doctor for review. If you would rather it did not, say so, and another doctor in the practice or the practice's management reviews it instead.
We answer general questions within one business day.
